Day 18 – We Get Reacquainted With the Big Chain Ring

July 8
Harrodsburg, KY to Bardstown, KY
48 miles

“Rolling” is back in our good graces. With fresh legs, 48 miles of spectacular and gently undulating terrain begged us to finally pedal our big chain ring. A thoroughly relaxing day with enough time to sight-see. We are still passing through farming country but are now seeing more and more tobacco fields as we head westward.

Our route took us right past the Lincoln Cabin, a homestead log cabin and stomping grounds of Abe Lincoln’s grandmother, Bersheba, and her five children, one of whom was Thomas – Abe’s father. History lesson over.

  1. Beautiful country; is that tabacky? Glad all is going smoother now. Is there anywhere we can see a map of your route (they do that for the Tour de France)?

  2. Looks gorgeous! Happy to hear you're past the trailer parks and attack dogs for now.

  3. So glad that you are rollin', rollin', rollin'.
What time are you getting up anyway? Are you on the road shortly after sunrise? Kicking back by 3:00? Or are all those snacks along the way making for a longer day.

I wish I was there for them snacks!

Glad that the weather seems to be holding.
    Miss you a lot!

  4. Hello ladies of the wheel,
So sorry I had to cut short our "birthday chat" yesterday - glad to hear you had such a good rest and following day (I hear you cheated a tad on your mileage though!). Brain a bit sluggish this morning from last night's festivities - missed my marinated flies and sitting in our underpants cackling in a humid bathroom. Thank god that video didn't go down with the ship!
ML - you looked positively thrilled in your poptart picture - you ladies do seem to be consuming this country's finer delicacies!
I must away to work! You ladies just keep "working" on those miles and don't forget your camera again!
    Love to you both,
    Beth

  5. Also - anyway to set up another post along the route now that I missed Lexington? Tasteless cards await...
